Fludarabine is a chemotherapy medication that is chiefly indicated for treating chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). It can also be helpful for treating hairy cell leukemia, low grade non Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL), and a kind of lymphoma that affects the skin named as mycosis fungoides. It exerts its positive action by destroying the abnormal blood cells that are responsible for the occurrence of this disease.

  • Pentostatin must not be taken with Fludarabine as the risk of fatal lung problems may get enhanced.
  • The effectiveness of Fludarabine may be decreased by Dipyridamole, thus this combination is also not safe.

The whole tablet is swallowed with glass full of water without breaking or chewing them. You must take this medication on an empty stomach or with food.

What happens in case of missed dose?

If you forget to take a dose of Fludarabine or vomit after consuming its dose, you should ask your physician for advice. Remember not to take a double dose of Fludarabine to make up for a missed dose.

What are the possible side effects associated with Fludarabine?

Common side effects of this medication may include loss of appetite, shivering, swelling of intestinal tract mucous membranes, visual disturbances, feeling generally unwell, mouth ulcers, and excessive fluid retention in the body tissues. A visit to the doctor becomes necessary if you get any of these side effects and these don’t fade away with time and become troublesome.
